Starting over has always been challenging for me; however, I have also learned that I am permitted to begin again — no matter how many times I may have attempted before. My healthy journey starts now.
In the past, I’ve had many cycles of stopping and trying again. This morning felt like yet another new beginning. However, this time it is not about achieving a particular look. Rather, it is about being more fully engaged in my daily life, developing consistent and predictable routines that give me stability and confidence, and believing that I will show up for myself in some small way.
I’ve experienced numerous “Day Ones.”
Over the years, I have spent countless Monday mornings telling myself that this would be the day when I would finally experience change. Eventually, though, I found myself returning to familiar patterns and routines.
Today, I am treating this moment as another fresh start — one I am choosing to embrace rather than feel embarrassed by.
Each prior attempt has offered me an insight or a lesson. Every time I chose to stand back up, I discovered a strength within myself that I did not know existed. As a result, today is not about hoping for positive change; it is about choosing to create that change.
What Motivated Me to Start My Healthy Journey Today?
There are many reasons why I decided to start today. However, the central reason behind all of them is simple:
I am exhausted.
I am tired of wearing clothing that makes me feel uncomfortable.
Turning away from my reflection in the mirror has become second nature.
Most of all, I’ve grown weary of placing myself last on my priority list.
The Moment I Knew It Was Time to Begin
Approximately two weeks ago, something changed.
I stepped out of the bathtub, and my knees were hurting so severely that I had to use all my strength to lift myself up. Once I managed to stand, I immediately returned to the bathroom and sat on the edge of the tub to catch my breath. In that quiet moment, something within me spoke clearly:
“You cannot continue to put yourself off any longer.”
It wasn’t dramatic or loud.
It was genuine.
And I knew it was time to begin making changes — not one day, but today.
Therefore, I am choosing to reclaim my life, one gentle and patient step at a time.
Negative Patterns I Am Ready to Change on My Healthy Journey
Being true to myself feels uncomfortable; yet, I know that growth only happens when I am honest with myself.
No Continuity
I often begin with enthusiasm. However, as life becomes busier or more overwhelming, my motivation tends to fade.
Difficulty With Self-Control
When I am fatigued, I reach for whatever brings immediate comfort rather than what will serve me best over time.
Portion Control
Growing up, I believed I needed to finish every morsel on my plate. Now, I understand that it is acceptable to stop eating when my body signals that it has had enough.
Consuming Food Too Late
Eating too close to bedtime affects my sleep quality and leaves me fatigued the following day.
Spending Too Much Time Sitting
Most of my days are spent in front of a computer. My body needs movement, not stillness.
Excessive Sugar Added to Coffee
Although I enjoy coffee, the amount of sugar I previously added did not make me feel well. Gradually, I am reducing the sugar I use.
Poor Sleep Hygiene
Since I am working to improve my overall health, sleep is an area where I want to support myself in developing better habits.
Changing One Habit at a Time on My Healthy Journey
(Healthy routine building — progress over perfection)
Before this experience, I tried to change many areas of my health at once. Each time, I became overwhelmed and eventually gave up.
This time, I am taking a different approach. Instead, I am choosing a few small habits that feel achievable and non-threatening.
Progress Rather Than Perfection — Day One of My Healthy Journey
Day One Habits on My Healthy Journey
Clove Water (Morning)
A warm and soothing way to ground myself before beginning the day.
Light Movement Around the House
No high-impact exercise — simply reminding my body that it can move and that movement can feel enjoyable.
Smoothie Verde (Breakfast)
Green apple, banana, cucumber, spinach, green apple juice, lemon juice, and water.
Bright, refreshing, and simple.
Chicken Salad (Lunch)
A colourful combination of grilled chicken, vegetables, and feta — nourishing and satisfying.
Rice, Beans, Chicken & Salad (Dinner)
Food I enjoy, prepared in balanced portion sizes.
Hydration
I carried my water bottle throughout the day and drank approximately three liters of water.
Less Sugar in Coffee
I now drink two smaller cups of coffee with less sugar instead of three large sugary ones — a habit I feel I can maintain.
Not Perfect — But Mine
Previously, I focused only on what I failed to do.
Today, I am acknowledging what I did do:
I moved.
I consumed food and water with intention.
I stayed hydrated.
I took care of myself.
These things matter. And today, that is enough.
Seeing Through My Eyes
I tend to avoid mirrors because it is difficult to see myself without judgment. Yet, avoiding myself does not allow me to move forward.
Therefore, I am moving forward slowly by:
Taking private progress photos
Viewing myself with more kindness
Sharing parts of my journey
This process is becoming more than physical change — it is reshaping how I speak to myself and how I show up in my life.
Why This Healthy Journey Matters to Me
I want to find comfort in my daily routine.
Moving with ease and having more energy for the things I love matters deeply to me.
My routines should uplift rather than deplete me.
Most importantly, I’m seeking more peace, confidence, and moments of pride in who I am becoming.
Where I Am Focusing
Showing up when it feels hard
Celebrating small victories
Moving in joyful ways
Consuming with purpose
Staying hydrated
Supporting my sleep
Being honest about my challenges
Treating myself with kindness
I am not perfect. However, I am learning how to remain committed without demanding perfection from myself.
I Would Enjoy Hearing From You
